The Grumpy Pig Gets a Home in Moreland

Barbecue is comin’ to town! The Grumpy Pig, a new barbecue restaurant, is bringing wood smoked flavors and family recipes to Moreland, GA. Owned and operated by Jamie Arrington and his wife Kelly, the restaurant opened its doors at the beginning of December after two successful years of running The Grumpy Pig food truck. “When you’re serving 200-300 people and at least 150 of them ask where your brick-and-mortar is, you start to think about it,” says Jamie.

The restaurant specializes in ribs, wings, and brisket and a unique peach sauce made with peach moonshine jelly. Jamie, who has been barbequing for most of his life, prides himself on using a stick burner—a barbeque smoker that uses wood instead of charcoal for fuel but most importantly flavor. “We’re pretty traditional… just [letting] the smoke do it,” he says.

Beyond its barbeque, The Grumpy Pig has smoked mac & cheese, a mayo and sugar based coleslaw, and a couple of cherished family recipes including a 70-year-old Brunswick stew from Jamie’s wife’s grandmother and her banana pudding. Customers can also purchase meat and sides in bulk or Family Deals.

The journey from food truck to restaurant has been both exciting and humbling for the Arringtons as they’ve received the community’s warm reception and support. “We’re grateful for our family, friends, and the community who have helped us get here,” Jamie says.

And as for the quirky name, “[m]y wife and son came up with it,” he chuckles.

It is a combination of a nod to Jamie’s 15 years in law enforcement and his family’s nickname for him.

The Grumpy Pig is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11:30 AM to 7:30 PM and located at 2997 US Hwy 29, Moreland, GA. For those who might miss the food truck, don’t worry, it’s still available with updated monthly schedules posted on their Facebook page

Please note they will be closed Christmas Eve and Christmas day. They will be open the day after Christmas and New Years Day.
