A complex of thunderstorms is expected to move into east Alabama and west Georgia this afternoon, with storms continuing into the evening and clearing by midnight. Areas along and south of the I-20 corridor are under a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) for severe weather, while areas to the north face a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5).
Main threats include damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph, quarter-sized hail, heavy rainfall, and the possibility of a brief tornado or two—especially in east Alabama and west Georgia. Localized flash flooding is also possible.
Storms may begin entering the area as early as 3 PM ET. Forecast confidence is high for strong storms, with uncertainty remaining on how far north the severe threat will extend due to lingering cool, stable air.
Stay weather-aware this afternoon and evening, and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions.
