Sheila GoreCast, a Carrollton local, expected retirement to be filled with reading every book she never had time for as a working mother. However, when her shelves began running low on unread books, she started searching for new hobbies to fill her free time. It was paint-by-numbers that finally caught her attention, satisfying the creative side she had always had and eventually leading her to create her own art studio.
She explains that she originally completed paint-by-numbers as intended, but one day, she began using them only as an outline. Paint-by-numbers allowed her to rediscover a passion for painting, one she had not explored since she was a teenager. Now, she does not limit herself in what she paints and is continually inspired by the beauty of nature and humanity. She says she has “always looked at the whole world as a canvas” and loves how the colors of the world blend.
About a year and a half ago, GoreCast decided to convert the extra building behind her home into an art studio. Her goal with the studio is to see her “paintings in a whole lot of homes in the community and even some businesses.” She does not paint for the money; she paints to share her passion and skills with her community.

GoreCast tries to keep the prices of her paintings on the lower side so that anyone can afford a piece of art that connects with them. Since opening her studio, she has already sold more than 60 paintings and has had multiple returning customers. She sold 16 of those paintings at a Sip, Shop and Socialize event she hosted at her studio at the beginning of May. In the future, she would like to host more events like it.
GoreCast explains that she enjoys painting a little bit of everything, never limiting herself when it comes to subject matter, color, or style. She not only wants there to be something for everyone to connect with, but she also wants to continue advancing her skills and knowledge as an artist. This is why commissions are one of her favorite parts of the studio, as she loves the challenge of bringing a customer’s idea to life on canvas. With five commissions now completed, she welcomes inquiries for custom pieces through the comments on her Facebook page, where those interested can also arrange a visit to her studio.
