West Georgia Technical College (WGTC) is pleased to announce the appointment of a new member to its board of directors. Maryanne Lovejoy was sworn in at the August board meeting and officially began service.

The West Georgia Technical College Board of Directors is composed of members nominated for their positions in area industries to support the College’s mission and programs. Once local Board approval is secured, final approval is conferred by the State Board of the Technical College System of Georgia. The Board’s purpose is to advise on program direction and serve as a check and balance for the development and implementation of college goals, budget, objectives, policies, and procedures. More importantly, members advocate within the community on issues of importance to the local technical and the Technical College System of Georgia’s workforce development efforts.

“Maryanne has a deeply integrated understanding of Troup County, as well as the opportunities and challenges that exist there, and has a passion for its forward momentum,” said Dr. Julie Post, president of WGTC. “She has built strong relationships in the community and will be an incredible addition to the Board offering strong commitment to West Georgia Tech from Troup County.”

Maryanne Lovejoy, Executive Director of the Troup County Center for Strategic Planning, Inc., d/b/a Troup Strategy Center, is a community and organizational leader with a passion for building partnerships that strengthen communities and improve quality of life. During her five and a half years in her role, she has led the organization through a rebranding and strategic planning process and helped advance collaborative initiatives in early childhood education, workforce development, infrastructure, housing, and other areas important to the community’s long-term success. She is particularly passionate about bringing people and organizations together around shared priorities and turning ideas into meaningful action.

Lovejoy will represent Troup County on the Board, joining other leaders from across WGTC’s seven-county service area in advancing the College’s mission to build a skilled and thriving workforce in support of local industry needs.
