This September 5, the Carrollton Fire Department will honor the FDNY firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001, with the inaugural 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb.
The event will be held at Carrollton High School’s Grisham Stadium with participants climbing the equivalent distance of the 110 stories of the World Trade Center on a route across the stadium’s stands. Each participant will carry a commemorative lanyard featuring the name and photo of a fallen FDNY firefighter during the climb.
“The 9/11 memorial stair climb is a long – cherished tradition in the firefighting community,” said Training Officer Captain Patrick Darby, the fire department’s point person for the event. “As we mark the 25th anniversary of September 11th, we invite our families and community to climb beside us to symbolically retrace the steps of those brave FDNY firefighters and first responders, to honor their courage, compassion and their ultimate sacrifice. Together, we climb so that their legacy lives on.”
The free event starts at 8am (onsite registration starts at 7am) and the public is welcome and encouraged to participate. Go to carrolltonfiredepartment.com/9-11-stair-climb for more information and to register.
