In preparation for the school year, Carrollton City Schools Transportation Department conducted safety training with the Georgia Department of Public Safety and purchased two new buses, thanks to Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (E-SPLOST) funding.
CCS drivers trained using a tractor-trailer outfitted with six simulators that mimic bus driving experiences. From navigating through storms to avoiding erratic drivers, the simulations tested the team to consider best practices and discuss ways to avoid unsafe situations. The experts encouraged drivers and provided feedback during each session.
“This hands-on training gave our drivers a valuable opportunity to practice real-world situations in a safe environment,” said CCS Director of Transportation Montrell McClendon. “It reinforced the importance of staying alert, making sound decisions, and always putting student safety first.”
As CCS grows, so does the bus fleet needed to safely transport students. The two newest buses are All-American Blue Bird buses, which seat 84 passengers. These state-of-the-art buses are equipped with LED lighting for improved visibility, backup cameras, three-point seat belts, updated video equipment, navigation tablets, and engines designed for longevity.
The Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, or E-SPLOST, for education is a 1-cent sales tax that is presented to the voters via referendum every five years. Through these funds, CCS purchased the two buses needed for this school year.
Well-equipped to begin the school year, CCS Transportation is continually looking for opportunities to elevate its service and strengthen its practices.
