New Exhibition: “The Sacred Harp – A Georgia Musical Tradition”

The Sacred Harp Museum, with the support of Georgia Humanities, is launching a new exhibition on the history and heritage of Sacred Harp singing. “The Sacred Harp – A Georgia Musical Tradition” tells the story of this unique form of a cappella music, which has been thriving in West Georgia since before the Civil War. Prior to opening at the Sacred Harp Museum, the exhibition will be featured at a special viewing and reception at the Carrollton Center for the Arts, 251 Alabama Street, Carrollton, GA, from 5-7pm on Friday, September 7. “We’re hoping to reach out to the community by bringing the exhibition downtown,” says Nathan Rees, curator of the Sacred Harp Museum. “The opening coincides with an important Sacred Harp event, the United Convention, meeting nearby at Holly Springs Church in Bremen, on the 8-9th. We hope that after learning about Sacred Harp at the exhibit, everyone will feel welcome to visit the convention over the weekend.” Both the exhibition and the United Convention are free and open to the public.
