Event Details

The recipient of the Pulitzer Prize as well as the 2024 Blackwell Prize in Writing administered by UWG, Gregory Pardlo will read work spanning his career, followed by a book signing.

Pardlo’s collection Digest won the 2015 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry. Other honors include a nomination for an NAACP Image Award, and fellowships from the New York Public Library’s Cullman Center, the Guggenheim Foundation, the New York Foundation for the Arts, and the National Endowment for the Arts. Pardlo is Associate Professor in the MFA program at Rutgers University-Camden. His most recent books are a poetry collection, Spectral Evidence (2024), and a memoir in essays, Air Traffic (2019).

The Blackwell Prize is awarded annually for high achievement in observational painting. Winners are in residence in Newnan for at least two weeks and deliver artist talks, workshops, and exhibitions for the surrounding communities. The prize is valued at $10,000 and made possible through the generosity of the Blackwell Trust of Newnan, Georgia—legacy of Fred R. and Nell W. Blackwell—as well as support from the Newnan Artist-in-Residence Program.
