The Vault Gallery

The Vault Gallery will be open special hours during the Wadsworth Piano Competition Finals.

This second iteration of the Home exhibition features selected UWG students who share their visual responses and reflections on the universal, familiar, and timely theme of home.

UWG students, much like the rest of us, have experienced extreme changes and upheavals to day-to-day home life due to the pandemic. Those experiences in turn become the basis for work in this exhibition. Home 2:0, in other words, presents recent works that respond to the question: What does home mean as a physical and emotional space?

Although home is a universal (but varied) concept, these UWG undergraduates are in a distinct position in their lives. In their first years of college (usually a time of independence and growth), they unexpectedly find themselves back in their childhood bedrooms, in front of laptops and cell phones. Thus many pieces draw from this liminal space, reflecting on quarantine, confinement, and shelter. Others address questions of identity, particularly as it relates to home and family. Still others explore simply the physical aspects of home as a built environment.

Regardless of approach, however, students selected for this exhibition possess strikingly original conceptions of home, all of which manifest themselves in the work on display.
