Event Details

Carroll County Community Theatre’s The Last Night of Ballyhoo examines one family’s funny  – and at times dramatic – Christmastime experiences, at the Carrollton Center for the Arts, December 1 – 3.

“Playwright Alfred Uhry’s work, Driving Miss Daisy, is beloved by so many people including myself,” said Arts Center Manager Tim Chapman. “However, he won a Tony Award for his script, Last Night of Ballyhoo. What I like most about Mr. Uhry’s work is that it is set in Atlanta and has a southern flair. This will be the hit of the season and one you will not want to miss.”

The play is set in an upper-class German-Jewish community in December 1939 Atlanta. As the winds of the Second World War begin to blow overseas, Adolph Freitag’s family confronts prejudice, ethnic bias and religious identity while looking forward to Ballyhoo, a lavish cotillion ball sponsored by their restrictive country club.

“Ballyhoo has a delicious combination of southern charm and humor mixed with relevant bias and misunderstanding,” said the show’s director, Lisa Bridwell. “There are worlds that many may not see and there are stories that many may not live. Seeing the audience come to life as they experience those worlds and stories is simply amazing.  I love bringing this type of experience to our community through live theater.”

Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for youth (12 and under) and can be purchased online at carrolltonarts.com, by phone at 770-838-1083 or at the center’s box office at 251 Alabama Street.

The performance is sponsored by Tritt Realty.
