Providence Elementary School Participates in Science Olympiad Competition

(Carrollton, Ga. -March 13, 2015) Saturday, February 28, many students from Providence Elementary and 17 other teams, participated in the regional Science Olympiad Competition. Science Olympiad is a competition including 18 events where students work together in pairs to compete in science and math related events.

Nigel Dickey and Liam Trantham achieved 2​place in Paper Rockets. The students had 20 minutes to construct a paper rocket and practice launching it. Whichever team came closest to the target, won.

Ryan Trantham and Trent Guy won 2​place in Simple Machines. In 15 different stations, each pair of students had to identify simple machines and answer a question about the subject or use equipment to measure some traits such as weight, length, or force.

Jacey Singleton and Noelle Eckstein finished in 3​place in Rock Hounds. The participators had 20 minutes to identify as many rocks and minerals as possible. They had to answer specific questions about their qualities for instance, hardness scale, density, reaction to vinegar, shape, color, and texture. Each rock and/or mineral identified correctly will count as one point for the team.
