A new ice cream shop in Bremen is causing quite a stir among local patrons seeking to satisfy their sweet tooth. Butter’dudder Ice Cream & Coffee co-owner Jim Rafferty says that since the shop opened in July, it has quickly gained many repeat customers who all describe their experience in similar fashion.
“A lot of the people who come in here and try it for the first time say that it’s the best ice cream they’ve ever had,” says Michael Rafferty, owner and general manager.
Butter’dudder, which is located at 205 Davis Boulevard in Bremen, is owned by Jim, Michael, and Kevin Rafferty. The family’s secret to creating the most delicious treats around is simple—nearly everything on the menu is homemade.
“We make all of our ice cream fresh every day, as well as most of our baked goods like cookies, brownies, cheesecakes, and much more,” says Kevin, chef/co-owner. “We have a rotating menu selection, so you’ll find something new every time you come in.”
The Raffertys’ love for family and a close-knit community is what has been the driving force behind the creation of Butter’dudder. They also go on to say that everyone in the family agreed that Bremen would be the perfect place to open their first location.
“As a family we have always loved ice cream,” says Michael. “Some of our earliest memories growing up are going to the ice cream shop after youth baseball games or any other summer night. Since our opening we have been humbled by the reception of our new hometown, as well as west Georgia and eastern Alabama. Each day we are more and more sure that we chose the correct place for our business.”
The homemade ice cream flavors at Butter’dudder are not just unique, but can be more accurately described as distinctively delicious.
“You won’t find flavors similar to what we have anywhere around,” says Michael. “We are constantly coming up with new flavors.”
Butter’dudder features ice cream flavors such as Key Lime Pie, Gingersnap Molasses, Vietnamese Coffee and Oreo, Strawberry Poptart, Bourbon Nilla Wafer, Butter Brickle, as well as many other classic flavors with the same unmistakable, homemade freshness.
“Our most popular flavor is definitely one which consists of brown sugar, brown butter, and brownies,” says Kevin. “We know it can be hard to make up your mind as to which flavor you want, so we offer free samples of each one. We serve ice cream by the scoop, or in shakes and floats.”
In addition to their extraordinary ice cream flavors, it’s a well-kept secret that Butter’dudder also serves premium coffee and fresh-baked treats.

“We open at 7:00 a.m. Monday through Friday, and Saturdays and Sundays at noon,” says Michael. “So we have lots of customers who like to come in and get a fresh cup of coffee and one of our freshly-baked treats for breakfast. Some of them even come in twice a day—once to get coffee and a bagel, and later in the evening to grab some ice cream on their way home.”
Jim says that Butter’dudder is not only a popular place to experience delicious menu items, but it’s also a great place for gatherings.
“We have people come in groups because it’s a good place to get together and enjoy some ice cream or coffee and visit with one another,” says Jim. “We’re very happy to have a partnership with the local radio station, WGMI 1440 AM, on which Coach Rooster Russell hosts his weekly Coach’s Corner every Wednesday from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.”
Jim, Kevin, and Michael invite everyone from the west Georgia and east Alabama area to stop by and try Butter’dudder’s one-of-a-kind tasty treats.
“We’re very thankful to everyone in Bremen and the surrounding communities who has supported us, and we hope to serve everyone for many years to come,” says Jim. “Stop by and see us!”
