Middle and high school students in the region will have the opportunity for unique experiences, to explore their passions, and to make new friends this summer when the University of West Georgia hosts summer camps for sixth- through 12th-graders. The weeklong camps will begin June 5 and run through July 28.
All camps include expert instruction led by UWG faculty, staff, content experts, rich materials and delicious lunches on the Carrollton campus. Camps will also be offered at our Newnan site.
Camp attendees will develop life skills and explore hands-on activities related to science, arts and culture, and computing and entrepreneurship. Camp topics include Nursing SAVE, Mad Scientist, Filmmaking, Forensic Science, Music West – Low Brass, Photography, Game Design with Scratch, Esports, Social Media Influencer, Creative Arts, and more!
Extended camp experience opportunities will also be available. Campers will be able to scale our rock wall, practice team building and participate in other activities around UWG’s Campus Center.
UWG will also host its popular Wolves Exploration Camp for rising kindergarteners through second-graders at the Early Learning Center. Campers will explore space, travel in time to visit dinosaurs and engage in creative art experiences. As well as the new Geology West Camps in partnership with West Youth Science & Technology Center (West GYSTC) for Grades 3-5.
“In the Archaeology Camp, students will learn what archaeology is and why it’s important and how they can experience archaeology right here in their community and backyards,” said Dr. Nathan Lawres, assistant professor of anthropology and director of the Antonio J. Waring Jr. Archaeological Laboratory. “All of this will be exciting and through fun, hands-on activities. They’ll even learn how to 3-D scan and print artifacts. They’ll dig like a pro and excavate in the UWG simulated archaeological site.”
Summer 2023 also includes Esports Camps led by UWG’s Esports coach Joseph Lee. Camps give students an insightful experience into the world of Esports. Students will learn about Esports culture and its industry, explore how their love of games can become careers beyond team play, and how to succeed in promotion and event management.
Other programs happening on campus this year include our UWG Athletics All Sports Camp, Georgia Scholars’ Institute, Virtual Reality Lab, and West GYSTC Camps.
