The Carrollton Center for the Arts presents Paperhand Puppet Intervention’s World of Wonder, a future-facing show drawing inspiration from an older art form, January 18 at 7pm.
“This year we decided to offer a puppet series,” said Carrollton Center for the Arts Manager Tim Chapman. “We wanted to bring in the best companies we could find on the East Coast. Paperhand Puppets is one of those award-winning programs that have wowed people with their beautifully crafted, larger than life puppets.”
Paperhand Puppet Intervention’s directors Donovan Zimmerman and Jan Burger use papier-mâché, cardboard, bamboo, old house paints, cloth and other assorted junk to make giant puppets, masks and spectacle performances in a celebration of the Earth and its creatures. The two were Inspired by the enormous puppets of the 1960s. Their shows feature a live band composed of instruments such as cello, drum, guitar, cymbal, chimes, violin, accordion and flute along with vocalists to perform background music, musical numbers and sound effects.
This show is sponsored by United Community Bank.
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online at carrolltonarts.com, by phone at 770-838-1083 or at the center’s box office at 251 Alabama Street.
