CCS Young Authors head to state competition

Two Carrollton City Schools student authors, Khyden Megathlin and Milan Jovingo, are heading to state competition after winning the region contest in the 2025 Young Georgia Authors Writing Competition.

Both students rose above the rest with their work. Carrollton Middle School student Khyden Megathlin won the seventh-grade regional contest with his piece “Changes.” Carrollton High School junior Milan Jovingo and her work “Open-Minded” won for 11th grade.

The students won top honors in the West Georgia Regional Educational Service Agency regional competition held in March and included other school district winners from Carroll, Coweta, Harris, Heard, Meriwether, and Troup counties.

For over two decades, the competition has recognized student writing excellence and provided a platform to foster creativity across the state. Supported by the Georgia Department of Education, Georgia Language Arts Supervisors and the broader RESA network, Young Georgia Authors encourages K-12 students to develop their skills and celebrate their successes.
