Presley earned the title in the Extemporaneous Speaking–Domestic category. Upon arrival, competitors receive three topics based on current events in the United States. They select one topic and have 30 minutes to prepare a seven-minute speech to the judges.
Carrollton High School debate coach Richard Bracknell praised Presley for her performance at the state championship.
“Presley’s strengths were on full display,” Bracknell said. “She used her debate talents and literary expertise to craft a well-balanced, persuasive speech that helped bring home the state championship. We are extremely proud of her.”
Notably, junior Marian Roenigk finished as the runner-up in the Extemporaneous Speaking– International category. Out of 21 teams competing in the AAAAAA competition, the Trojans tied for sixth place overall.
