Carrollton High School has named Rory Camp and Grace Russell as this year’s valedictorian and salutatorian, honoring the two seniors for finishing their high school careers at the top of their class. Camp earned the title of valedictorian with the highest grade point average, and Russell achieved salutatorian standing with the second-highest average.

Earning these titles means the students must have the highest grade point averages, and successfully completed 10 or more Advanced Placement (AP)/International Baccalaureate (IB) classes, including Spanish IV and either AP Calculus or AP Chemistry, or be a full IB diploma student.

From rigorous academic work to extracurricular leadership, Rory always sets his sights on high achievement. Throughout high school, he has completed 13 AP classes, received the AP Scholar with Distinction Award as well as two department awards for AP Chemistry and AP U.S. History, and was named a Wofford Scholar and University of Georgia Certificate of Merit student at the end of his junior year. While Rory’s academic performance earned him this honor, his notable contributions extend beyond the grade book. An Eagle Scout and amateur guitar player, his drive and curiosity are integrated into his intellectual nature. Rory has a quiet confidence and humility that his peers notice and celebrate, as he was voted to the student council and Homecoming King Court and served as captain of both the lacrosse and cross country teams. Maintaining the top academic record while being actively involved on campus demonstrates his exceptional leadership, work ethic, and intellect. He is the son of Molly and Andy Camp.

Grace, the daughter of Christina and Hugh Russell, is known for her determination and dependability. Her academic record mirrors her philanthropic efforts in both variety and depth.  Named a Wofford Scholar, Presbyterian College Junior Fellows Award, and University of Georgia Certificate of Merit student, she completed 10 AP classes and an additional IB credit. Serving as vice president of the math team and an officer in the National Spanish Honor Society, she is viewed as a leader among her peers. After two years of serving, Grace became the Children’s Program Director at Circles of West Georgia, a local organization that provides weekly programs and resources to support families experiencing poverty, demonstrating the compassion and service at the heart of her work. By mastering the curriculum and cultivating community growth, Grace has left a positive impact on the Carrollton community.

Both students plan to pursue degrees in Mechanical Engineering as they continue their education at the Georgia Institute of Technology in the fall. Grace and Rory shared that they are honored to represent their class at graduation this Friday, May 15.

CHS Principal Dr. Ian Lyle said he knows these two students will continue to make an impact.

“Carrollton High School is fortunate to have such outstanding students represent our school as valedictorian and salutatorian. We are extremely proud of Rory and Grace’s accomplishments,” said Lyle. “They have set the standard for academic integrity while dedicating themselves to being active members of the Trojan Nation. I know they will continue to thrive in the next chapter.”
