State FFA Officers Visit Carroll EMC

Carroll EMC agribusiness advocate, David Huddleston, with state FFA officers at North Georgia Turf in Whitesburg.

State officers of the National FFA Organization visited the Carroll Electric Membership Cooperative Tuesday, Nov. 19, to tour the facility and learn about the cooperative’s close ties with agriculture and its active participation in local agribusiness affairs.

The state FFA officer’s week-long leadership tour brought them to Carroll EMC’s headquarters where they were given a brief summary of the cooperative’s humble beginnings as the first electric provider to rural areas in West Georgia. Students observed the System Engineering team resolve power outages in the dispatch center and the Operations crew perform a high voltage demonstration.

“It all ties in together,” said David Huddleston, agribusiness advocate for Carroll EMC. “Agricultural practices have the potential to cause power outages, and we wanted to show the students how the cooperative manages those events.”

To end the eventful afternoon, Huddleston traveled with the officers to North Georgia Turf in Whitesburg and the Callaway Cattle Company in Hogansville to see agriculture production first-hand.

“We do what we do so we can make an impact in these young students’ lives,” continued Huddleston. “They are the future leaders in agribusiness.”
