The Carroll County Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual STAR Student/Teacher Achievement Recognition awards program at the February Membership Breakfast held at the Carroll County Schools Performing Arts Center. The local Chamber has co-hosted this program with the Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE) for 65 years, recognizing the top performing high school seniors with the highest SAT scores, and the teacher each student chose as having the most influence in their academic development.
During the STAR ceremony, the honorees, their teachers and parents, school administrators, and counselors were recognized by Mr. Daniel Jackson, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce and Carroll Tomorrow, Carroll County School Superintendent Mr. Scott Cowart, Carrollton City Schools Superintendent Dr. Mark Albertus, and Oak Mountain Academy Head of School, Mr. Patrick Yuran.
STAR honorees from the Carroll County School System include: Bowdon High School student Rileigh Daniel and her teacher Carrie Gay; Central High School student Courtney Vance and her teacher Lane Daniel; Mt. Zion High School student Conner Fisher and his teacher Keith Holloway; Temple High School student Isabel Salazar and her teacher Jessica Bohlen; and Villa Rica High School student Caleb Yarbrough and his teacher Bryan Crane.
In addition to being recognized as the STAR Student for Bowdon High School, Miss Rileigh Daniel was selected to represent Carroll County at the region STAR Student event that will be held in Rome, Georgia on March 24.
“We congratulate all of the Star Students and Star Teachers on being selected for this prestigious honor. These students are bright, well-rounded young people who are already using their talents to make a difference in our community, and our STAR Teachers are a shining example of Carroll County’s commitment to positively changing the lives of our students,” stated Cowart.
