Sixty-three Carrollton High students receive national recognition from College Board

Sixty-three Carrollton High School upperclassmen have been recognized by the College Board as National Recognition Program awardees. Students earned these recognitions due to their academic achievements in school, as well as their performance on the Advanced Placement (AP) exams. 

The following students received the National Rural and Small Town Award: Tanya Aggarwal, Marshall Aycock, Kempton Ballard, Samantha Berg, Wilfredo Bonilla Canales, Evan Brookings, Juliet Browning, Henry Carden, Micah Chapman, Tyler Clotfelter, Marisol Colorado-Piedra, Omar DeJesus, Flora Duffey, Samuel Duncan, Edward Fleck, Jaira Garcia Cruz, Carson Haley, Camren Harley, Evan Harris, Hoyt Herman, Anna Houser, Julia Hume, Joseph Jacobs, Hutch Jennings, Carly Jordan, Molly Kenyon, Alana Lee, Oakleigh Long, Abigail McCoy, Jackson Mullins, Joel Nunez Gusman, Brady Pace, Julie Patel, Jacob Preston, Olivia Rader, Marian Roenigk, Mason Scoville, Miguel Simon-De Feo, Kevin Stuart, Josephine Thomas, Serenity Thompson, Susy Velasquez, Amelia Walter, and Joy Zimmer. This recognition honors high-achieving students from small towns and rural communities, highlighting their academic accomplishments and connecting them with colleges and scholarship opportunities.

Sixteen students were recognized with First-Generation Recognition Awards, honoring students on track to be the first in their families to complete college: Wilfredo Bonilla Canales, Landon Bowen, Landon Cato, Micah Chapman, Carry Chen, Marisol Colorado-Piedra, Jaira Garcia Cruz, Anna Houser, Milan Jovingo, Simranjeet Kaur, Joel Nunez Gusman, Jacob Preston, Nelson Quinonez Gomez, Serenity Thompson, Susy Velasquez, and Aileen Yanney.

Wilfredo Bonilla Canales, Micah Chapman, Marisol Colorado-Piedra, Jaira Garcia Cruz, Anna Houser, Joel Nunez Gusman, Jacob Preston, Serenity Thompson, and Susy Velasquez received awards in all three categories: Rural and Small-Town, School, and First-Generation Recognitions. 

“I am very proud of these students for their achievements in their classes and on the AP exams,” said CHS Principal Ian Lyle. “We see our students excel on a daily basis, but the recognition programs from the College Board celebrate the hard work of students and help them stand out to colleges during admissions.”
