Tanner Health is providing families the opportunity to learn critical, lifesaving skills through a free hands-only CPR training event.
This one-hour session will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, at Mount Holly Church, 4685 US-27, Carrollton, GA 30117.
CPR is an essential technique used to keep blood flowing during sudden cardiac arrest, a condition that occurs when the heart unexpectedly stops beating. Cardiac arrest can result from a variety of causes, including electrical shock, lack of oxygen such as drowning, structural heart conditions or irregular heart rhythms. When administered immediately, CPR can triple a person’s chance of survival.
Despite its proven effectiveness, fewer than half of people who experience out-of-hospital cardiac arrest receive CPR from a bystander, and fewer than 10% survive out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. When bystander CPR is performed immediately, a person’s chances of survival can double or even triple.
Because roughly 70 % of cardiac arrests occur at home, the life saved is often that of a family member, friend or loved one. Hands-only CPR training empowers individuals with the confidence and skills needed to act quickly during an emergency.
Families who attend the training will receive a hands-only CPR training kit that includes a DVD, training mannequin and other educational materials. The session will be led by experienced members of Tanner’s cardiac services team and will focus on teaching the fundamentals of hands-only CPR.
The training does not provide CPR certification but equips participants with the knowledge needed to provide hands-only CPR until emergency responders arrive.
