Maxwell named Exemplary ESOL Teacher

Carrollton High School English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) teacher, Jeremy Maxwell, is one of 23 high school teachers across the state to be recognized as an outstanding ESOL educator, demonstrating his profound positive impact on students’ lives in his school and community.

Each year, the Georgia Department of Education awards teachers with the ESOL Exemplary Teacher honor. ESOL is the state-funded language instruction educational program for eligible English Learners (ELs) in grades K-12 in Georgia public schools. Recipients serve as model educators, pursuing opportunities to improve their instruction. This year, only 59 educators in total were honored. As an ESOL teacher, Maxwell focuses on developing his ELs’ academic English proficiency to support success in school.

Maxwell holds teaching certifications in English, history, political science, geography, and ESOL. His broad academic background allows him to bring a wealth of content knowledge into the classroom, which greatly benefits the high school English learners he serves. By connecting language instruction with strong subject-area expertise, he helps students better understand complex academic concepts while simultaneously strengthening their English proficiency.

CHS Principal Dr. Ian Lyle shared about Maxwell’s commitment to innovative teaching.

“Mr. Maxwell is an exceptional educator who consistently looks for ways to engage learners while helping them strengthen their academic knowledge,” said Lyle. “He is a strong collaborator who works with his colleagues to skillfully design lessons that are accessible to his students. We are proud of him and celebrate this achievement.”
