An exhibit of artist Channing Gray’s paintings, books and found objects, titled Into Neverland: Swirling Dreams of Southern Memories, opens at the Carrollton Center for the Arts, February 27.
“This will be an interesting show with a bit of whimsy to it,” said Visual Arts Coordinator Marcella Kuykendall. “The handmade books and small installations that will be included add to the storytelling in the paintings and vice versa. It should be fun to explore while discovering the connections between the different works.”
Gray uses the body, space and color to create pieces that symbolize connections with strangers, personal objects and memory. The work is inspired by the artist’s experiences like rockets launching, late night biking, jumping off a bridge into a creek, moving between homes, building forts with Grandma’s quilts and collecting botanicals in glass jars.
The exhibit runs through April 7 and is sponsored by Walt and Charlene D’Ambrosio. A free public reception in honor of the show will be held at the center February 27, 5 – 7pm.
