Light Up the Night Draws Community Together in Support of Mental Health

Willowbrooke at Tanner and the City of Carrollton brought the  community together Friday evening for the annual Light Up the Night event, held April 24 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at  the North Lakeshore Greenbelt Trailhead in Carrollton. The free, family-friendly gathering served as a kickoff to  Mental Health Awareness Month, centered on this year’s theme: More Good Days, Together.

Community members of all ages gathered along the lake to enjoy music, sound therapy and yoga by the lake,  creating a calming and welcoming atmosphere. Attendees also participated in expressive therapy activities,  connected with therapy dogs, and explored a vendor market featuring local organizations. Food trucks added  to the festive feel as guests shared glow sticks symbolizing hope and support for mental health.

“Light Up the Night reflects what ‘More Good Days, Together’ looks like in action,” said Meagen Thompson,  director of behavioral health and development at Willowbrooke at Tanner. “Seeing people slow down, connect  and take part in activities that support mental well-being reminds us how important community is. We  encourage everyone to carry that spirit forward throughout May by celebrating Mental Health Awareness  Month and helping create more good days, together.”

“Seeing our community come together for Light Up the Night was truly inspiring,” said Mayor Betty B. Cason of the City of Carrollton. “This event shows the power of connection and partnership in supporting mental  wellness. When we show up for one another, we help create more good days for our neighbors and our  community.”

Throughout May, Willowbrooke at Tanner will lead its annual Shine Green initiative as part of Mental Health  Awareness Month. The campaign encourages individuals, families and businesses to take visible steps to  show support for mental wellness and help spark meaningful conversations.

Willowbrooke at Tanner extends its sincere thanks to Southwire, the presenting sponsor of Light Up the Night, for its continued support of mental health initiatives and its commitment to the well-being of the community.

Willowbrooke at Tanner also thanks community partners, vendors and volunteers who helped make the event  possible and everyone who attended and showed their support. For more information about behavioral health services, Mental Health Awareness Month activities or how to  participate in Shine Green, visit WillowbrookeAtTanner.org.
