Rebecca Wheeler Receives EqualizeHer Award from the Douglas County Chamber of Commerce

Rebecca Wheeler, Dean of Adult Education for West Georgia Technical College (WGTC), received the EqualizeHER award from the Douglas County Chamber of Commerce at the Celebrate YOU! Women’s Conference on Wednesday.

Celebrate YOU! is dedicated to empowering women to thrive by nurturing well-being through self-advocacy, self-care, and self-awareness. The EqualizeHER award honors a woman who is making a transformational impact on the community through advocacy, business, and public service.

As Dean of Adult Education at WGTC, Wheeler leads programs that support adult learners pursuing their GED, English language education, career readiness, and workforce development opportunities.

“I am fortunate to work alongside an amazing team of adult educators who show up every day with passion, dedication, and a commitment to changing lives,” Wheeler said. “Their efforts make opportunities possible for our students and families, and I share this recognition with each of them.

Under Wheeler’s leadership, graduation and enrollment rates have increased significantly, impacting thousands of adult learners across the west Georgia area.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to do work that I love and to be part of a profession that transforms lives every day,” Wheeler said.

The Douglas County Chamber of Commerce described Wheeler as a passionate advocate for educational access and opportunity whose work continues to transform lives across west Georgia. And with her commitment to second chances, equitable access, and empowering others through education, they believe that makes her a true embodiment of the EqualizeHER Award. Wheeler was one of many honorees at the! conference.

“Being recognized alongside 11 other incredible women who are making a difference in the lives of others every day was both humbling and inspiring,” Wheeler said. “This award is a reminder of the power of service, leadership, and the impact we can have when we invest in our communities. Thank you to the Douglas County Chamber for this honor and for celebrating women who are making a difference.”
