West Georgia Technical College (WGTC) has named Dawn Liverman Director of Advising and Student Success. With more than 13 years of experience in higher education, Liverman brings a strong background in academic support, program coordination and student engagement.
As WGTC’s new Director of Advising and Student Success, Liverman is focused on helping the advising team and Student Affairs Division take a more proactive approach to student success. She said understanding students’ perspectives is key to helping them navigate a clear path through their educational journey at WGTC.
“I am really excited about this role,” Liverman said. “West Georgia Technical College has a really unique student population that we get to serve because these students are working and have families but still decided to still prioritize education. So being able to help people who are ready to help themselves is super empowering. Plus, it is a dream for me to just be a small part of that journey for these students.”
Liverman previously worked at the University of West Georgia (UWG) and Oregon State University, serving in various advising and student success coordinating roles. She holds two degrees from UWG, a bachelor’s degree in geology and a master’s degree in professional counseling – college student affairs.
“We are incredibly excited to have someone on our team with so much experience and such a strong background in serving students from an academic advising standpoint,” said Tony Cardenas, Vice President of Student Affairs for WGTC. “The energy she brings to the department, the knowledge base that she works off of, her innovation and her creativity is second to none. This is an exciting time for our students at West Georgia Tech.”
Liverman said what drew her to WGTC was the accepting environment that creates different opportunities for students to explore.
“In my experience at Oregon State, I was working specifically with Portland Community College students who wanted to transfer,” Liverman said. “I really grew to learn the difference between what a research institution or a comprehensive college provides, versus what a community college or a technical school provides. With West Georgia Tech, I think the different degrees and certificates that we offer to students is incredible.”
